Depicted is the motif of Madonna and Child, which are accompanied by St. John the Baptist as a boy. St. John the Baptist is depicted with his attribute in Christian iconography, the cross bar. Women were still not allowed to study at art academies in the 17th century. Elisabetta Sirani founded an academy of the arts in Bologna that granted admission to women exclusively. Sirani also belongs to one of the first women to become a member of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. The engraving is inscribed in the plate. It is mounted in four points under a mat. The work is besides slight foxing and minimally creased paper in good condition. The frame displays slight traces of wear.
