One of his most favorite topics is re-interpreting ancient Greek myths. His works are reminiscent of Giorgio Chirico’s metaphysical interiors and his mannequins, but also of other pieces by the modern poetical art of painting, like ‘Die Horde’ by Max Ernst. This collection of four graphic works from the time period 1966-1970 represents characteristical works of Max Zimmermann. Included is a sample etching from 1966 for ‘Deucalion II’, which is part of the portfolio Metamorphoses by Ovid. In 1967 the etching ‘Communication I’ was produced, executed in blue-green and black. Here the artist printed it on a double sheet, inscribed it on the inner side and sent it as letter. Furthermore the lithograph ‘Evening’ is included, which is present here as one of 25 copies in black and belongs to the portfolioThe daytimes. Lastly another lithograph from 1970 is enclosed. Both etchings and one of the lithographs are signed and dated below the image. The untitled lithograph and ‘Deucalion II’ are in a good condition with minor signs of age and wear. The other works show more heavy signs of age and wear. ‘Communication I’ bears several handling creases and various foxing spots. The sheet ‘Evening’ is slightly toned and also displays handling creases as well as foxing. The image dimensions measure between 20.5 x 11.2 cm and 50.5 x 38.3 cm, while the sheet dimensions are 30.8 x 22.2 cm, 33 x 24 cm, 49.4 x 33.5 cm and 52.7 x 38.3 cm.
