Schrimpf' and numbered '70/100' in pencil; signed 'Schrimpf' on the stone Image dimensions: c. 25 x 18 cm; sheet dimensions: 27.6 x 20.3 cm Good condition Condition: The sheet is in good condition with discoloration due to the age and creases and tiny damages mainly affecting corners and edges. The sheet is mounted to a mat on the reverse. The image dimensions are c. 25 x 18 cm and the sheet measures 27.6 x 20.3 cm. Georg Schrimpf (1889-1938) The artist and autodidact Georg Schrimpf lived an itinerant life until 1915 when he moved to Berlin and met Herwarth Walden, supporter of the avant-garde. He acknowledged Schrimpfs artistic work with a solo exhibition in the gallery ‘Sturm’ in 1916. The following year Schrimpf married the painter Maria Uhden (1892-1918). In 1921 he became member of the ‘Neuen Secession‘ in Munich and traveled to Italy and Switzerland during the following years . From 1926 to 1933 Schrimpf taught at the Städtischen Gewerbeschule in Munich. During these years he took up the topic ‘Neue Romantik‘ in a series of exhibitions. Furthermore he started to teach at the Staatliche Kunsthochschule in Berlin Schöneberg in 1933 and got appointed as a supernumerary professor. A work made by Georg Schrimpf 1915 was on display at the opening of the exhibition ‘Entartete Kunst‘ in Munich 1937. (msc) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
