Dorothy Iannone (b. 1933) Dorothy Iannone studied American literature at Boston University in the 1950s, then English literature at Brandels University in Waltham, Massachusetts. Then she settled in New York City. Her early works feature an abstract expressionist style, whereas her later works became more representational, depicting mainly erotic subject matters. In the 1960s, she was manager of the Stryke Gallery in New York. In 1967, she met Dieter Roth, who became his cohabitee. With him, she joined the Fluxus movement along with other artists like Robert Filliou, Daniel Spoerri, and Emmett Williams. She began to create mythological ornamental picture stories, in which she often addresses sexual liberation. Her provocative works have been repeatedly banned from exhibitions until the 1990s. From the mid-1970s, Iannone also created video installations with erotic reference. In 1976, she moved to Berlin and conducted workshops at the Academy of Arts. Works by Iannone are in the collections of the Berlinische Galerie, the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin, and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.
