ANDREA ANDREANI (after Raffaellino da Reggio) The Adoration of the Magi. Chiaroscuro woodcut printed in dark greenish gray and black on cream laid paper. 431x330 mm; 17x13 inches. Raffaellino (1550-1570) was a gifted Mannerist painter from Reggio Emilia (hence his name) and a disciple of the artists Taddeo Zuccari and Federico Zuccari. He worked mainly in Rome during the 1570s and died there prematurely at age 28. There is a drawing by Raffaellino of a design for a chapel with an altar piece of The Adoration of the Magi now in the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh. Bartsch 5.
