CHIA HOY SAI b. Selangor, 1948 HARVEST II, 2018 Signed and dated ‘Chia Hoy Sai 2018’ (lower right) Pastel on paper 25 cm x 32.5 cm Chia Hoy Sai is a full-time artist who has studied at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore from 1968 to 1969. Starting from 2000, Chia began his 4-year journey to travel and explore the rural areas of the Southeast Asian region that covers countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Myanmar and more. The experience has fueled great inspirations to his art career, which can be seen in his artworks that are normally featured with portraits of men and women in traditional attires, as well as mouth-watering tropical fruits. In 2009, Chia collaborated with Sokka Gakai Malaysia to organize an exhibition tour covering 14 places throughout Malaysia for a period of 6 months. Chia’s major art exhibitions include the annual art exhibitions of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Alumni Association and the Kelang Artists Society. In 2018, Chia participated in Art Asia@KL 2018 Hotel Art Expo, held in the Palace of the Golden Horses, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
