Three engravings from his series of the Virtues:Temperance, personified as a woman standing in a niche, holding a bridle and reins in her extended left hand --- Fortitude, personified as a woman standing with her legs crossed in a niche, leaning on a draped column with her right arm ---- Hope, personified as a woman standing in a niche, holding a container of unleavened bread in both hands and looking towards flames in the upper right hand corner. ---- There is some debate as to whether the source for these prints is a series of drawings for the wall paintings of the Sala di Costantino in the Vatican by Raphael, Giulio Romano or by the Raphael School and subsequently whether they should be dated 1510-11 or 1524-7.
