Salvador Dali Spanish, 1904-1989 Cybernetic Lobster Telephone 1975 color lithograph and etching on wove paper 30 x 22 inches signed and numbered, I-239/250 from Imaginations and Objects of the Future printed by Atelier Rigal and published by Merrill Chase/Alan Rich The lobster telephone was created in 1936 by Dali for Edward James who was a significant collector and patron of Dali. The lobster telephone was functional and James purchased four of them for his retreat home. Lobsters and telephones had strong sexual connotations for Dali, drawing an analogy between food and sex. The lobster telephone showed the eccentricity of Dali as well as his innovation within surrealism. Provenance: James T. Parker Art Trust Collection, Chicago, IL
