King was born in New York in 1852. King studied at the Art Student's League, National Academy of Design, and the Ecole Des Beaux-Arts, Paris with Gerome and Bonnat. His art was exhibited at the Parrish Art Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Boston Art Club, National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, the Corcoran Gallery, and the Society of Independent Artists.
