Unknown (18th century): View of the "Temple de Romulus et de Remus" in an idealised representation, 18th century, Copper engraving Technique: Copper engraving on Paper Inscription: Inscribed in the printing plate: "TEMPLE DE ROMULUS ET DE REMUS | ROMULI ET REMI TEMPLUM". Date: 18th century Description: Architectural veduta of an idealised ancient round temple, labelled "Temple de Romulus et de Remus". The building is depicted in a central perspective view with emphasised symmetry and classicist details. The monumental dome rests on a tambour-like substructure with a richly structured façade consisting of a three-part entrance area with Corinthian pilasters. Figural staffage in the foreground illustrates proportions. Latin and French legends at the top. The copperplate engraving was probably created in the early 18th century in the context of antiquarian archaeological vedute works on the history of Roman architecture.
