L. von Hagedorn". At the lower part numbered in the printing plate: "185g | 25.". Date: 18th century Description: The portrait presents a male figure in a half three-quarter view. He is wearing traditional 18th century clothing, including a jacket with a raised collar and a visible ruffled border on the shirt. The style of the engraving, characterised by fine, closely placed lines, captures facial expressions and fabric textures in great detail. The composition is centred, surrounded by a softly hatched background that emphasises the figure. Person: Christian Ludwig von Hagedorn (1712 Hamburg - 1780 Dresden) Was a German art theorist and collector, writer and translator, as well as an amateur engraver and diplomat in the Saxon service. He was primarily known as a poet and editor and was one of the leading representatives of the so-called "Hamburg Enlightenment", a literary movement committed to rationalism and the Enlightenment. His best-known work is probably the "Moralische Wochenstuben" (1729-1730), a collection of moral reflections and poems.
