Karl Perl (Austrian, 1876–1965) Polychrome bronze sculpture Early 20th Century Measurements: 7" H x 7" W x 4" D Polychrome bronze figural sculpture depicting a costumed musician in animated pose, shown leaning backward while playing a lute. The figure is dressed in elaborate period attire enriched with finely painted geometric and foliate patterns in red, green, blue, and gold tones. The composition is mounted on an oval green onyx base, secured from below, and signed “K. Perl” on the bronze terrace. The dynamic stance, theatrical subject, and use of mixed materials are characteristic of early 20th-century Viennese decorative sculpture influenced by historicism and theatrical costume design.
