Yan Bolong (1898–1955), born Yunlin, courtesy name Bolong (known by his courtesy name), with the pseudonym Changbai Bu Yi, was a Manchu of the Plain Yellow Banner, from Beijing. He was a renowned flower-and-bird painter of the Beijing-Tianjin school during the Republic of China era. Yan was versatile in painting landscapes, figures, flowers, birds, and animals, but he was particularly skilled in flower-and-bird painting. Early in his career, his style was influenced by Wang Mengbai, retaining the lingering charm of the "Eight Masters" and New Luo styles. In his later years, he gradually moved away from the styles of his predecessors, incorporating his own brushwork and synthesizing the flower-and-bird painting methods of the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. This led to the development of his unique "Jiangong Daixie" style in flower-and-bird painting.
