This armchair was designed in 1930 by Josef Frank in collaboration with Oskar Wlach and manufactured by their Company House & Garden. The distinctive chair is made of solid walnut. Back and armrests are formed by a peripheral frame line, which is composed not in bentwood but carved from single parts. The 'seat shell' is reinforced by a board and backrest bars. Also unusual is the leather covering, which makes the seat surface and the backrest frame more comfortable. A cushion with leather fringes is fixed to the backrest and gives the design an added attraction. The chair is 90 cm high and measures 60 x 60 cm. It is in very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. The leather upholstery has been renewed. Josef Frank (1885-1967) The Austrian- Swedish architect Josef Frank studied architecture at the Technical University of Vienna, before he taught at the local arts and crafts school. He founded the Vienna Werkbund. He is with Oskar Strnad, seen as the father of the Viennese school of architecture. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
