Fine Hand-Painted Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Double-Lobed Box, Marked "Da Qing Xuantong Nian Zhi," 20th Century A distinctive and elegant Chinese double-lobed porcelain box, finely handmade and hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue with animated five-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls among clouds. The box is skillfully crafted with a domed lid that fits snugly over the curved base, echoing traditional Qing scholar's or brush boxes. The underside bears a six-character mark: "Da Qing Xuantong Nian Zhi" (Made during the Xuantong reign of the Great Qing Dynasty), honoring the final emperor of imperial China. Although produced in the 1970s, the box is a fine revival of 18th-century imperial style and workmanship.
