AARON WILLARD LYRE CLOCK Period Carved Mahogany Wall Clock with original gilt wood eagle finial, painted dial signed "Aaron Willard, Jr., Boston", under original old glass, 8 day weight driven time only brass movement, case having carved leaves and scrolls flanking the gilt and white eglomise lyre form glass at throat, matching lower glass, split pendant integral lower bracket, 42" x 11 1/2" x 4". Fine condition, some loss to gilding on eagle. From the estate of the president of Blackstone Canal National Bank, Providence, RI, and handed down to the current owner. Clock is said to have hung in the Hancock Mansion on Beacon St. in Boston prior to its demolition in 1863.
