Size: 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 in. Girard-Perregaux SA is a luxury Swiss watch manufacturer with a history dating back to 1791 when watchmaker Jean-François Bautte signed his first watches. The current company was formally founded in 1856 by Constant Girard, who later merged his firm with the Bautte House business in 1906. The manufacturer is most famous for the historic “Tourbillon with three gold bridges,” a design patented in 1884 that won a gold medal at the 1889 International Exposition in Paris. Their numerous technical innovations included designing the first high-frequency mechanical movement in 1965 and setting the universal standard frequency for quartz watches in 1970, and despite the “quartz crisis” that impacted the industry, Girard-Perregaux reinforced its position in high-quality mechanical watches and was acquired by the French luxury group Kering in 2011. Kering sold its stake in 2022 via a management buyout, and today Girard-Perregaux is still known for its luxury collections like the Laureato and Vintage 1945.
