Dimensions: Height 26,3 cm Wide 19 cm Depth 13,5 cm Weight: 4041 grams Finely cast gilt bronze figure of the Dhyani Buddha Vairocana, seated in vajraparyankāsana upon a double-lotus base. The Buddha’s hands are held before the chest in dharmacakra mudrā, the gesture of turning the Wheel of the Law, identifying him as Vairocana, the embodiment of cosmic wisdom and the illuminator of all Buddhas. The figure is richly adorned with an elaborate crown, necklaces, armlets, and anklets, many set with turquoise- and coral-colored inlays, reflecting his manifestation as a sambhogakāya (celestial) Buddha. The serene face, gently downcast eyes, and softly modelled features convey a sense of inner calm and transcendence. A arched prabhāvali frames the figure, enhancing its vertical presence. The lotus base is carefully chased and rests on a stepped plinth, the underside bearing an engraved vajra emblem, a symbol of indestructible wisdom and ritual consecration. The surface retains extensive fire-gilding, with areas of gentle wear and rubbing on raised elements, consistent with age and devotional handling. Vairocana occupies the central position in the Five Dhyani Buddhas and represents ultimate reality (dharmadhātu). Gilt bronzes of this quality were produced for monastery shrines and high-level ritual use, particularly in Central Tibet during the 18th century, often reflecting strong Newar artistic influence. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear to gilding, small losses to inlay stones, and light surface abrasions. Overall structurally sound and visually refined.
