Dimensions: Height 17 cm Wide 14 cm Depth 8 cm Weight 998 grams Fire-gilt bronze with turquoise, coral, and pearl inlays. The goddess Ushnishavijaya is seated in vajraparyanka on a double lotus base, depicted with three faces and eight arms, one face rendered with a wrathful expression, emphasizing her protective and apotropaic aspect. The principal hands hold a double vajra (viśvavajra) before the chest, symbolizing indestructibility, stability, and the cosmic axis. Ushnishavijaya in her popular three-head and eight-hand form, an effigy of Amitabha in her top right hand, the left one displays the fear-allaying gesture, a long-life vase in the lower left hand, the lower right one displays the gesture of supreme generosity. The deity wears an elaborate jeweled crown with a tall central finial, richly adorned with inset turquoise, coral, and pearls. The faces are finely modeled, the contrasting serene and wrathful expressions underscoring the dual compassionate and forceful nature of the goddess. The figure is hollow-cast. The surface retains substantial fire-gilding, with areas of wear consistent with age and devotional handling. Ushnishavijaya is among the most important Buddhist longevity deities, associated with purification, protection from untimely death, and the extension of life. Esoteric forms holding the viśvavajra and incorporating a wrathful face are significantly rarer and reflect advanced tantric practice.
