작품 상세
A RARE PALE CELADON JADE ‘CHILONG’ BEAD, HAN DYNASTY China, 207 BC-220 AD. The long tubular bead, of irregular oval section, drilled from both sides and skillfully carved on one side with a pair of stylized dragons (chilong) writhing across the surface amidst other mythical beasts, while the reverse decorated with finely incised scrollwork. The translucent stone of a pale celadon tone, with cloudy inclusions and extensive areas of opaque calcification. Provenance: From The Sam and Myrna Myers Collection, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012. Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, with surface wear and inherent natural imperfections. Distinct traces of weathering and erosion. Few minor nicks, light surface scratches, and occasional minute chips. The stone surface with large areas of whitish calcification and chromatic alteration, with small remnants of red pigment. Weight: 48.6 g Dimensions: Length 7.6 cm Expert’s note: The simple tubular form of this pendant is almost concealed by dexterous relief carving of writhing dragons across its surface. These creatures appear to emerge organically from the material itself, their coiling bodies generating a sinuous and intricate all-over pattern that endows the piece, despite its small scale, with a striking sense of monumentality. The pendant stands as a compelling testament to the exceptional level of technical mastery in jade carving achieved by Chinese craftsmen during this period.
