A terra-cotta figure of a youthful, curly-haired Cupid, seated on a stump with proper left leg resting on proper right knee, holding a heart in his hand, with bow resting in the crook of his arm, and a quiver with arrows slung over hisshoulder, on a circular base with a birdbath molded as a hollowed stump with scattered leaves; the columnar pedestal ornamented with draped swags, American, ca. 1930. 43 ins. overall height. Figure 28.5 ins. high, 13 ins. wide, 14 ins.deep. Pedestal 14.5 ins. high, 15.5 diameter. Cupid pose is reminiscent of, and likely inspired by, the Greco-Roman figure, “Lo Spinario”, or “Boy with Thorns”.
