A RARE REGENCY LARGE JAPANNED TRAY, CIRCA 1810 A RARE REGENCY LARGE JAPANNED TRAY, CIRCA 1810 octagonal tray painted in oil with ‘The Death of Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar’ after Samuel Drummond, within a gold border with Greek key design decoration and raised red rim -- 28¾ x 20 x 1½ in. (73 x 51 x 3.5cm.) Samuel Drummond (1765-1844) painted a number of versions of his popular representation of the death of Nelson. The oil sketch for the version on this tray is at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich (ID: BHC0543). Very good condition.
