작품 상세
Wool and silk tapestry. Measurements 264 x 198 cm. The composition presents a galant and narrative scene in which two figures engage in dialogue within a theatrical interior, conceived as a staged setting through a large gathered curtain that frames the action and directs the viewer’s gaze toward the center. The male figure, identified as the fortune teller, adopts a composed and reflective attitude as he extends his hand toward the female figure, whose elegant posture and expectant gesture reinforce the symbolic nature of the encounter. The figures, dressed in classically inspired garments with finely rendered folds, stand out against an architectural background that provides depth and compositional balance. The floral border surrounding the scene, richly woven with intertwined vegetal and floral motifs, introduces a continuous ornamental rhythm that enhances the decorative character of the tapestry. The chromatic range, dominated by blues, ivories and soft earthy tones, together with the subtle modulation of light and shadow achieved through the weave, reflects the high technical quality of the Aubusson workshops in the 18th Century. The work belongs to the French tradition of decorative tapestry intended for aristocratic interiors, where narrative imagery and ornamental refinement combine to create an object of prestige and distinguished aesthetic value.
