작품 상세

A SAFAVID BLUE AND WHITE CHINESE INSPIRED POTTERY BOTTLE BASE Safavid Iran, 17th - 18th century Fritware body, of bulbous shape tappering towards the neck, painted with styllised floral and vine motifs. During the Safavid period Persian potters developed a distinctive tradition of blue-and-white ceramics inspired by Chinese porcelain. These wares often imitate Ming dynasty shapes and motifs, including floral scrolls, dragons, and cloud bands, but reinterpret them with Persian stylistic vocabulary and local aesthetics. The Safavid local production was stimulated by the high regard in which Chinese porcelains were held both in Safavid Persia—where they were collected in the chini-khana (cf. the Shah Abbas collection in Ardabil)—and in Ottoman Turkey (cf. the extensive collection at the Topkapi Palace). 24cm x 28cm For further reference on the subject: Crowe Y., Persia and China: Safavid blue and white ceramics in the Victoria & Albert Museum 1501-1738, London, Thames and Hudson, 2002.
