A SAFAVID BLUE AND WHITE POTTERY DISH Safavid Iran, 17th century A Safavid blue and white dish of fritware body, with conical sides and an everted rim, standing on a small foot, with the central medallion decorated in cobalt blue against a white background with floral motifs, the rim with foliate designs. Ultimately inspired by imported Chinese Ming porcelain, Persian potters developed a more patterned decorative approach, adapting the Chinese naturalistic motifs and transforming them into stylized ornamental designs (see Crowe, Persia and China: Safavid Blue and White Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum, Thames and Hudson, 2022, pp.117-121). 26.3cm diameter
