Ca. 3000 BC A stone amulet seal in the form of a stylised recumbent quadruped with a rounded body and a deep vertical groove along the back. The compact head with a blunt snout has recessed circular eyes. The underside forms a flat sealing face with two stylised animals composed of drilled depressions, and a transverse perforation pierces the body for suspension. Size: 41mm x 30mm; Weight: 29g. Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; Formerly in a central London family collections 1990s; Suggested to be examined by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926-2011), historian, archaeologist, and specialist in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology, in the late 1980s and early 1990s.; ex. 1970s/early80s UK art market.
