Ca. AD 400 - 600 A silver bowl with a hemispherical profile, set to one side with a rectangular loop handle. The interior is centred by a parcel gilt medallion engraved with a partridge in profile, the plumage indicated by rows of small punched dots, enclosed by a narrow gilt band, a surrounding ring of incised triangles and an outer gilt band. The exterior is hammered with shallow fluting radiating from central concentric circles on the underside. Size: 145mm x 50mm; Weight: 220g. Provenance: From the private collection of Mr. R. Unger; previously with a London gallery; acquired in the 1970s on the UK art market. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
