In his works, intertwined narrow lines feature abstracted figurative subjects. The present drawing displays an abstracted landscape, which was Uhlig’s favorite subject from the beginning of his career. His explosive strokes, sometimes in color and times in black and white, determine his work until today and are repeated with an astonishing variety. Condition: The paper is faintly creased, not affecting the overall good impression. The sheet measures 37 x 98.7 cm, the framed dimensions are 108 x 48 cm. Max Uhlig (born 1937) Max Uhlig studied under Theo Richter and Max Schwimmer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden in the 1950s. In the early 1960s, he was a master student of Hans Theo Richter at the Deutsche Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Before devoting himself to painting, he worked almost exclusively as a graphic artist until the mid-1970s. From 1995 to 2002, Uhlig was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. His works are regularly on display in overview exhibitions on the art of the GDR and are part of major museum collections, including the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, the Galerie Neue Meister in Dresden and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
