Antique Persian Bidjar runner was hand knotted in Iran of 100% natural wool with a cotton foundation. This rug is 120 to 130+ years old, has medium wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. The rug is organized around a powerful central shrine panel framed in golden camel tones, a form derived from the mihrab (sacred architectural niche) and symbolizing spiritual focus, protection, and sanctuary. This is flanked above and below by two monumental octagonal guardian medallions, which act as protective sentinels guarding the inner sanctum. These motifs are rooted in pre-Islamic Kurdish totemic symbolism, where stacked geometric forms represent cosmic order, continuity, and the path of the soul. This rug is showing signs of abrash (fading) due to the use of antiquated vegetable dyes. This rug was acquired from an established rug merchant. Clean and ready to be enjoyed.
