De Tullio EXHIBITIONS Zlatko Prica Retrospective, Zagreb Zlatko Prica, Planetario Gallery, Trieste, December 21, 2021 - January 31, 2022 PROVENANCE Private collection, Trieste After World War II, the avant-garde's obsession with intellectual aesthetic analysis pushed art toward formal research as an end in itself, self-referential and disconnected from reality. On the other hand, the Realist movement ended up reducing art to an ideological medium, stripping it of every other expressive dimension. Two opposing tendencies, but equally incapable of preserving the creative force of art, emptied by both formalism and didacticism. In this context, the independent voice of Zlatko Prica stands out. This Hungarian-Croatian artist develops a personal language without abandoning a dialogue with contemporaneity. Beginning with the observation of reality, his research progresses through an expressionist phase charged with emotional tension, finally arriving at allegorical visions, generated by profound feelings yet expressed with the freedom of abstraction. Prica's subjects have an intimate and subjective connection with nature: he works inspired by a rationality that anchors the creative gesture to the fundamental laws of life, giving the work a meaning that transcends individual experience. His painting is not limited to naturalistic imitation; it becomes a lyrical transfiguration, intertwining symbols, memory, and mythology in an authentic dialogue between art and life. In the 1970s, Prica focused his research on the human dimension, the protagonist of intense and profoundly evocative compositions: the sign comes alive, the space opens to a dialogue with the material, and the figure becomes a vehicle for investigating identity and existence, in a subtle balance between form and intuition. . 114 x 146 cm. 1973.
