THREE LARGE KASHMIRI LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ PEN BOXES (QALAMDAN) Indian subcontinent, Kashmir, 19th century All of typical rectangular shape with rounded edges; two of them with sliding trays, one, the largest with a detachable lid opening to reveal several inner compartments, delicately painted with gilded feathers against a dark background, the second largest is painted with polychrome flowers over a brown ground, and the third with interlaced palmettes and parsley motifs over a blue and gilded ground. 33.5cm x 10cm; 31cm x 7cm; 28cm x 6cm (3)
