작품 상세

Sakai Hōitsu, Japanese (1761 - 1829), "Magnolia Blossom," woodblock print on paper, signed with artist's chop at lower left, measures 9 x 12.25 inches to the matt edge, 14.75 x 17.75 inches framed. CONDITION: Good, some toning, matt discolored. This appears to be an early pull of this scarce woodblock print. Hōitsu began his studies in art in the Kanō school before moving on to study under Utagawa Toyoharu of the ukiyo-e style. He later studied under Watanabe Nangaku of the Maruyama school and Sō Shiseki of the nanga style before finally becoming a painter of the Rinpa school.
