The decorative paper work held in dynamic brushstrokes displays the soft portrait of Mozart – a subject which the artist frequently used in the 1990s. The works of this kind were to thematically be directed against the massification of the subject. Condition: The work on paper on two single sheets is in a good condition. The sheets are technique-induced slightly rippled and display tiniest pin holes in the corners. Additionally there are very occasional faint stains and fine craquelure in places of thick paint application. The sheet measure 138 x 94.2 cm, the dimensions of the frame are 162 x 122.5 cm. Luciano Castelli (b. 1951) From 1968-69 Lucerne born Castelli attended a preliminary course at the School of Design and Arts, i.a. as pupil of Max von Moos of. After graduation, he absolved an apprenticeship as calligrapher until 1972. In the following years, Castelli received several scholarships, including in the years 1973 to 1975, the Swiss art award. He quickly gained gained recognition with his sculptural clay objects, photographs, watercolors and conceptual works, which he for example exhibited at the documenta 5. In 1978 Castelli moved to Berlin, where he adapted an expressive character. His style became heavily influenced by the Neue Wilden. During this period numerous decorative series featuring Mozart, Indians, pirates, tightrope walkers and brothel scenes. Upon moving from Berlin to Paris in the late 80s, Castelli's painting style became more restrained. The expressive painting style switches into a stronger tonality, he also turns back on working with objects as well as small nudes made of bronze. Castelli's works can be seen for example at the Kunstmuseum Basel, the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen and the Musée d'Art in Toulon.
