Born in Vienna in 1928, he began as a watercolourist painting landscapes and later experimented with informal and tachist forms; In 1955, he had his first exhibition at the Helsingborg Art Museum, followed in 1961 by an exhibition of abstract works at the Zum roten Apfel gallery, where he met Richard Pechoc and Walter Malli and founded the Ahmad Pechoc Trio. His style developed into striking outline drawings with distortions, symbols and dynamic bundles of lines, often created under the influence of alcohol; 1977 exhibition at the Vienna Art Fair, 1978 retrospective at the Museum of the 20th Century. Fleck addressed themes of consumerism, environmental destruction, questions of identity and self-portraits (‘Selbstbefleckungen’ or ‘self-stains’) with anthropomorphic hybrids of humans and animals, nudes and surreal texts on H.C.
