Erich Fitzbauer* (born 1927 in Vienna) Trio, 1970 mixed media/paper 29 x 29 cm signed E Fitzbauer, dated 70 SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 150 - 300 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 150 Austrian graphic artist, illustrator, writer and publisher of the 20th century. Born in Vienna in 1927, he studied philosophy, German and English, was a secondary school teacher at Hernalser Gymnasium and worked as a printer and graphic art collector under the pseudonym Hieronymus Zyx. After serving in the war from 1943 to 1945, he lived in Perchtoldsdorf from 1976 and later in Eichgraben in the Vienna Woods, where he published editions such as Mond im kleinen Bären (Moon in the Little Bear, 1979) and organised exhibitions in Lower Austria. Fitzbauer created satirical riddle poems, drawings and prints with absurdly cheerful, critical motifs, often in colourful reading and picture books; winner of the Lower Austria Culture Prize.
