DAVID NASH (B. 1945): WING OAK Carved wood, 1998. 16 x 70 x 4 in. Note: British sculptor David Nash is known for his works in wood and the "shaping" of living trees. He uses a chainsaw and ax to carve the wood, and sometimes a blowtorch to char it, creating a blackened surface. His body of work has formed into two distinctive groups: sculptures that connect with the outside environment and remain in-situ, and works meant to be presented inside, as the work here.
