Olle Bærtling,  Swedish 1911-1981 -  Creature, 1958;  ink on paper, signed lower right 'Bærtling', dedicated to Kristian Romare and dated lower centre 'Til Romare 58', 62 x 47.5 cm (unframed) (ARR)  Provenance:  the Collection of Kristian Romare (1926-2015), gifted by the artist in 1958  Note:  Romare was a Swedish tv critic and art historian, who was married to artist Everlyn Nicodemus. The pair wrote together 'Africa, art criticism and the big commentary' in 2011.  Bærtling had a major show at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm from 2007-08, and has previously exhibited at the Sao Paolo Biennale in 1959, Denise Rene Gallery, Paris in 1964 and in various shows in the USA. This early and more figurative work reflects his tireless pursuit of an authentic vision for art. His work is now in public collections worldwide, including with the Tate in the UK.
