The image measures 38.2 x 74.3 cm, the sheet 41.7 x 77.8 cm. Olle Bærtling (1911-1981) Born in Halmstad the Swedish artist Olle Baertling earned his living first as a bank clerk. In his spare time, he created works in the style of Nordic Expressionists. Mid-1940s Baertling began increasingly to paint abstract. In 1948 he traveled to Paris, where he studied with the artists André Lhote and Fernand Léger. From 1949 on Baertling’s work showed a purely geometric abstraction which compositions of initially vertical and horizontal lines developed to the characteristic surfaces in sharp angles and often dissonant colors. From the 1950s on Olle Baertling’s works could be seen internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions. The collection of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm houses several of his works.
