Other Notes: Editor, writer, scholar, publisher, and lecturer during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Albert Shaw's achievements in journalism were almost unparalleled. He was in Teddy Roosevelt's inner circle as a member of his Kitchen Cabinet and established REVIEW OF REVIEWS in America. This painting section, a gift from Sargent to Shaw, is possibly the remnants of the Portrait of Dr. Carroll Dunham completed c. 1890 and listed in the catalogue raisonne as "apparently destroyed."
