Harold Harvey [1874-1941]- Off to Market:- signed Harold Harvey and dated '04 bottom left also inscribed on the stretcher 'Purchased from the Newlyn Art Exhibition 1904' oil on canvas 30 x 46cm * Provenance - by repute purchased from a Newlyn Art Exhibition 1904. Thence by family descent. * Biography Harold Harvey was educated in Cornwall and studied Art at the Academie Julian in Paris from 1894-1896 under his future mentor Norman Garstin. In 1896 he studied further at the Academie Delecluse and the Academie Colarossi. In 1897 he returned to Penzance, Cornwall where he worked with Norman Garstin. He painted largely in oils drawing for his subjects scenes of everday life in his native Cornwall. He became a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy from 1909 and a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists from 1910-1935. He married the talented artist Mary Bodinnar in 1911 and they settled in Newlyn. In 1920 Harvey, with his close friend and artist Ernest Proctor, established the Harvey-Proctor School of Art in Newlyn.
