(lot of 21) Roger Tory Peterson (American, 1908-1996), Assorted Bird Illustrations, gouaches on paper (mounted on card stock), each titled in pencil by the artist verso, various dimensions (all unframed): smallest: 2.5"h x 3.5"w/largest: 6.25"h x 6.25"w. Note: Authenticated by Roger Tory Peterson Institute (Mr. Tween Lenders, President). In the early 1950's LIFE magazine planned to publish an article about American song birds and commissioned Peterson to illustrate 21 birds. Unfortunately, LIFE decided not to print the article. These illustrations were then given to Worthen Paxton (Art Editor of LIFE Magazine) at the time (father of the current owner).
