Oil on canvas, relined Austria, circa 1920 Ernst Eck (1879-1941) - Austrian painter, graphic artist and sculptor; member of the Vienna Secession Signed ‘ECK’ lower right Dimensions: 66 x 92 cm Mounted in ebonized profile frame: 93 x 119 cm Good condition Condition: The painting is in good condition with fresh colors and minor abrasion due to the framing. The canvas has been relined. No evidence of retouching under UV light. The frame is slightly chipped. The dimensions are 66 x 92 cm, while the frame measures 93 x 119 cm. Ernst Eck (1879-1941) Ernst Eck studied under the guidance of Joseph Eugen Hörwarter at the Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna; from 1897-1905, he attended the ABK and was a student of Alois Delug, amongst others. In 1905, a scholarship brought him to Paris. From 1917-18, he studied sculpture under Edmund von Hellmer. From 1910 to 1939, he was a member of the Vienna Secession and then of the Künstlerhaus. Trips have taken him throughout Europe, India, Java and Australia. Eck painted landscapes, especially in Lower Austria, and animals, most notably exotic birds. Besides his paintings he created poster designs, which, amongst others, were on display at the International Poster Exhibition of the Vienna Secession.
