Der in Amsterdam tätige Pieter Codde spezialisierte sich auf Genre- und Porträtdarstellungen, wobei insbesondere musizierende Gruppenmotive bevorzugt thematisiert wurden, so auch diese Interieurszene, von der vergleichbare Versionen existieren, beispielsweise im Philadelphia Museum of Art von 1630 (RKD Nr. 1001196690 und 0000198407).
