Vinylic tempera on shaped canvas, mounted on wood Italy, 1983 Agostino Bonalumi (1935-2013) - Italian artist Signed and dated on the reverse 'Bonalumi 83' Listed in the Archivio Bonalumi, Milano, work number 83-040 Dimensions: 15.1 x 15.3 cm Provenance: Italian private collection, acquired from the artist Good condition Kinetic light work of intimate, poetic harmony; the auction record for a three-dimensional canvas by the Italian artist Agostino Bonalumi is currently set at more than €370,000 In this small work from 1983, the Italian artist has covered three narrow rectangular wooden panels with white painted canvas arranged vertically side by side. Thus resulting strict vertical structure is broken up by three circular disks that are placed at right angles underneath the canvas. The traditional two-dimensionality of the canvas is expanded into the room. Thus, the light can be adopted into a harmonious play with the shadow. The shaped canvas is signed and dated on the reverse on the wood 'Bonalumi 83'. The work is overall in good condition with only minor surface soiling. It measures 15.1 x 15.3 cm. Agostino Bonalumi (1935-2013) Agostino Bonalumi's apprenticeship began with a training as a draftsman at the 'Istituto Tecnico Industriale' in Vimercate near Milan. Between 1957 and 1958, he visited the studio of Enrico Baj in Milan. There he met Piero Manzoni and Enrico Castellani, with whom he exhibited several times, as well as founding the magazine and gallery 'Azimuth'. Influenced by Lucio Fontana and the informel art, he mainly created reliefs and three-dimensional spatial arrangements. In 1960, the founders of the Azimuth gallery separated. The following year, Bonalumi was a co-founder of the group 'Nouvelle École Européenne' in Lausanne. Since 1970, the artist also worked as a stage and costume designer for various theaters in Italy. Bonalumi has participated in a number of national and international exhibitions and biennials.
