Tomioka Tessai (Japanese, 1836-1924) watercolor and ink painting on silk of an orchid plant growing on a scholar's stone with calligraphy and two red seals. Painted in black and gray with red highlights in the plant flowers. The painting is mounted on a silk backing with wooden dowels. Dimensions: 48 1/4 inches tall X 16 inches wide; 122.55 cm tall X 40.6 cm wide. All measurements are approximate.
