He focused specifically on the description of hunting deer and roe deer, presenting them in the hazy atmosphere of dawn when they are coming forth from the thicket, as it is illustrated in this piece of work. The work is signed, dated and inscribed lower right 'Ch. Kröner Düss. 90.'. The sheet is mounted with a narrow brown paper tape. Verso with some remains of paper fibres due to former mounting, otherwise very good impression. The sheet sized measures 33 x 22.8 cm, the framed dimensions are 40 x 30 cm. Johann Christian Kröner (1838-1911) Johann Christian Kröner was born in Rinteln at the Weser in 1838. He began as a decorative painter in his father's workshop and educated himself in wildlife and landscape painting. In 1863 he moved to Düsseldorf, where he was supported by the landscape painter Hugo Becker and became friends with Eugen Dücker and Carl Irmer, who partly taught at the Düsseldorf Academy. Kröner successfully exhibited at representative art exhibitions, including the Crystal Palace in London and the World Exhibition in Chicago in 1893, in Antwerp 1894 and Paris 1900 as well as the Kunstverein Düsseldorf 1919 and the Düsseldorf Anniversary Exhibition 1925.
