KRÖNER, CHRISTIAN 1838 Rinteln - 1911 Düsseldorf "Abenddämmerung im Bruch" (Dusk in a Marshy Ground). Oil on canvas. Relined. 46,5 x 67cm. Signed and dated lower right: C. Kröner pinx. 1858. Framed. Verso: Confirmation of authenticity by the artists's son, Erwin Kröner, attatched to the stretcher. Christian Kröner is known to a wide public in particular as an observer of nature with a specialisation in hunting scenes. In addition to being a professor at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf since 1893, together with Deiker he enjoyed an excellent reputation in that field. Kröner never received an academic reputation but is considered to be an autodidact. Before concentrating on his artistic career as a stage painter, he worked in his father's business in the early 1860s. The work here present originated at that time. Following to the Romantic tradition it was painted with astonishing technical skills. It must have been of great importance to the arist, since it remained in his property throughout his entire life and his son Erwin confirms it to be part of his estate.
