작품 상세

Sebastiaen Vrancx was among the early Flemish painters who travelled to Italy before 1600 and belonged to the Antwerp painter's guild in the first decade of the 17th century. Alongside the figural scenes in landscapes and cavalry battles which he primarily specialised in during his late phase, Vrancx also painted several scenes of raids in rustic interiors. This image dramatically depicts the women and children's helplessness and fear as soldiers invade their home. A slightly smaller version of this composition attributed to Vrancx's workshop was sold by Van Ham in Cologne on 11.05.2012. The present work can be dated to 1617/1620 and is known to Dr. Joost van der Auwera.
