In the painting of the Red House, a historical structure and landmark built in 1650s by the Dutch, one notices the passage of time and a moment of solace and introspection in the atmosphere. The dense texture of paint is expressively applied by Yow Chork with the use of varying brushstrokes in the impressionist style. He employed the use of lush red and green colours to depict the buildings and trees. Fung Yow Chork is considered one of the finest impressionists in the country. At the age of 13, he was taught by a teacher who had studied Impressionism in Japan. He befriended Professor Chung Pak Mook of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore. Some of his solo exhibitions were held at The Art Gallery, Penang (1998), Rupa Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1983), Australian High Commission, Kuala Lumpur (1982), Chin Woo Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1981). He was awarded Second Prize, Merdeka Independence Trade Fair's Art and Photographic Exhibition (1957).
