작품 상세

The artist Fung Yow Chork had devoted his paintings to the theme of local landscapes, translating the forms of nature through his deft brushstrokes. Executed in a refined colour palette, the artist draws attention to a village surrounded by mountains, rivers, and a variety of trees. It offers a glimpse into the peaceful and simple ways of living in the past. In the foreground, a tiny figure is washing clothing by the stream. Fung Yow Chork is considered one of the finest impressionists in the country. At the age of 13, he was taught by a teacher who had studied Impressionism in Japan. He befriended Professor Chung Pak Mook of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore. Some of his solo exhibitions were held at The Art Gallery, Penang (1998), Rupa Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1983), Australian High Commission, Kuala Lumpur (1982), Chin Woo Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1981). He was awarded Second Prize, Merdeka Independence Trade Fair's Art and Photographic Exhibition (1957).
